Seeking the Kingdom each day

Posted on Nov 13 , 2009 in From the Pastor

Along with the other anxieties of our society some have added an anxiety about the violent end of our world. We have shifted our focus from man-made disasters to natural and cosmic ones. netsMovie-makers pick up on this and provide us with spectacular and terrifying images to increase our anxiety. Our faith focuses not upon the disaster and destruction, but rather upon the hope of re-creation and redemption – a new heaven and a new earth. We hear that “the wise shall shine brightly like the splendor of the firmament and those who lead the many to justice shall be like the stars forever.” The Gospel encourages us to be alert for the action of God to redeem and not to waste time attempting to figure out exact dates and times. For those who build their lives solely upon what they see and experience the ultimate collapse of their illusion is “the end of the world”. For the followers of Jesus who seek His Kingdom each day the ultimate revelation of the fullness of that Kingdom is the new beginning which will have no end.
