This week the Church completes a set of three celebrations that set forth the revealing of Jesus as Son of God and Messiah and initiate His Ministry. The Epiphany and Baptism of the Lord are followed by the changing of water into wine at Cana. This first sign in the Gospel of John points to His ministry as a revelation of who He is. As we have been baptized in Christ we also have been called and gifted by the Spirit to share in His ministry. Each of us has gifts from the Spirit to be brought together with the gifts of others to continue and bring to completion the mission of Jesus until His Kingdom comes. At times, like Jesus at Cana, we are not quite ready to use these gifts yet the needs of the Church and the Kingdom move us to act. If we follow His example we will give ourselves to this mission not in our time but in God’s.
