Holy Trinity

Posted on May 27 , 2010 in From the Pastor

For many people the mystery of the Trinity can get lost in the question of how we can profess to believe in three Persons but only one God. That leads to the realm of philosophy and the demonstration that our belief is not contrary to reason. Our belief is certainly non-rational or beyond reason, but it is certainly not irrational or against reason. However, this approach does little to relate the meaning of the Trinity to our daily living. When we consider the Trinity as a unique community of Persons whose love bursts forth to the whole of creation then a way is opened up for us. We as human persons are created in the image of this Triune God and find the fullness of our humanity in this image of a unity of life and love within a community of persons. One dimension of this image is generosity and a lack of possessiveness. We face a number of challenges in our society in which we are deeply divided and the divisions are exacerbated by a lack of generosity and an abundance of possessiveness. Only in the mystery of the Trinity can we discover authentic ways to respond to these challenges and live fully in the mystery of our own humanity.
