A Welcome to Students

Dear Parishioners,

This weekend Mrs. Rosemary Capotosto will speak at all the masses. Mrs. Capotosto is the principal of our new St. Bernard-St. Mary Elementary School.

She comes to us from St. Paul School here in Akron where she served as a teacher for 12 years, then as principal for ten years. With her leadership we plan to be educating Akron area children for some time to come. Please give Mrs. Capotosto your attention to learn more about our unique parish school.

This past week Bishop Lennon gave permission to use St. Mary church for a school Mass and non-sacramental prayer services (e.g. Stations of the Cross, Rosary, etc.). This will provide our school students the opportunity to continue weekly masses. The Mass will be held at 8am on Fridays during the academic year.

As a new academic year for our school begins, we welcome students beginning or returning to classes at the University of Akron. Please be aware of our new Mass Schedule, but know the 8pm Sunday evening Mass will continue. We hope your prayer with us is a great support in your time of studies and career development. The Newman Center is located here at the parish. Students can find an advertisement card at the church doors describing Upcoming Events offered by the Newman Center. Please take a card with you.

Loyal Oaks Lake was a wonderful setting for many of the parishioners who joined in the Parish Picnic last weekend. Thanks to the 6pm Spanish Choir, the K of C, and the Picnic Committee who helped make the day at the lake a relaxing and enjoyable event.

Apologies are in order to those who showed for the 6pm Mass last Sunday. I’m sorry for the inconvenience to those who did not know the Mass was cancelled so folks could attend the Picnic Mass.

Next Sunday, August 29th, Bishop Lennon will preside at the 11:30am Mass. During the Mass I will be installed as the first pastor of our new parish. The members of the Parish Council, Finance Council, and Staff will be present. Following the Mass there will be a reception in the Social Hall with coffee and donuts. It is a good opportunity to meet and greet the Council members, Parish staff, and fellow parishioners. Please note that the ‘coffee and donuts’ will move to the later morning Mass for next weekend only.

Please pray for those beginning another academic year this week, and for those in the parish who are undergoing medical care. St. Mary and St. Bernard pray for us who have recourse to you.

A blessed week to you all,

Fr. Dan
