Dear Parishioners,
On March 14th last, Bishop Lennon received official word from the Congregation for the Clergy in Rome reversing his closing of 12 parishes in the Diocese. Although the Bishop had a right to appeal their decision, he announced this week he would forego a long, uncertain, and divisive process.
Speaking words of peace and unity, he will reopen the 12 parishes including the former St. Mary. PLEASE SEE A COPY OF THE BISHOP’S LETTER TO ALL THE FATIHFUL in the inserts of today’s bulletin.
At this point I can add no more information than what is in the letter and what was gleaned from his Monday morning press conference. My summation is that he will be looking to his list of clergy personnel to help him carry out the Congregation’s directives.
As soon as I hear more about what these directives entail and who will be involved, I will inform you of what steps will be taken. Your patience and prayer is needed as we undergo another transition.
We are privileged to honor and showcase a part of our diocesan history. Progress & Promise is a traveling exhibit celebrating the lives and works of 27 Religious Congregations of Women. Spanning over 160 years these Sisters have served Northeast Ohio in various charitable works. Their dedication to Christ and the Gospel life has enhanced the faith of the Church of Cleveland. PLEASE READ THE PAGE IN TODAY’S BULLETIN and STOP IN the Upper Room (former chapel) to the right of the sanctuary before May 16th. The exhibit will be open the same hours as the church beginning at 9:30am.
I cannot encourage you enough to buy a ticket and join us at Emidio’s on May 4th as we “Race for Horsepower”. PLEASE SEE THE FLYER IN TODAY”S BULLETIN for the NIGHT AT THE RACES.
Individuals and Akron area businesses have willingly provided numerous and generous prizes for the night. A wonderful group of parishioners have given of their time and talent to create this event. What will make it a success is YOU! Tickets are $40 per person and available at the doors.
Catholics vary in their understanding of the faith. I don’t know if I could ever be at the depth of knowledge as Pope Benedict or articulate it as well as St. Augustine. For many believers, following Jesus is a simple love for the Lord, or a life of service to the needy. Yet, all Catholics at some time or other have questions about life, God’s revelations, or why we do this or that.
Another means of providing input and answers to faith questions is the monthly insert “Growing in Faith”. PLEASE TAKE IT HOME WITH YOU from TODAY’S BULLETIN. I hope there is something in it you will find renewing or maybe a new understanding. Again, we are all at different levels and this insert is rather eclectic and readable for members of the whole family. Share it with someone; use it as a teaching aid to your children or grandchildren. Look for it each month – in English or Spanish!
This weekend we ask God to strengthen His grace in the lives of three people who have reached a milestone in their understanding of our faith. On Saturday at the 4:30 pm Mass, Michele Hofacker will receive the Lord’s Body and Blood for the first time. Our congratulations to her and her parents, Richard and Beth Hofacker. How much you want to bet that her 3 brothers are going to serve the Mass?
Then on Sunday at the 11:30 am Mass, Josh Nagy and Zachary Koopman will be received into full communion of the Catholic Church. Through the renewal of their baptismal promises and the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist they will be united with us in faith and belief. Please welcome these young men to our community with supportive words and a prayer.
Well, friends, before I run out of room I want to continue in Spanish. God bless and keep you. Fr. Dan
Dan
