~ School Supplies Drive to assist Catholic schools. Please consider donating supplies at any of the six Ohio Federal Catholic Credit Unions. For location information and credit union hours, visit www.ohiocatholicfcu.com or call (216) 663-6800.

~ FUNFest, at Queen of Heaven Parish, Green will be held August 16-19: Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6-10 pm and Sunday from 4-8 pm. The FUNFest is held on the church grounds with events schedule outdoors and indoors in the Parish Life Center (PLC). Admission is free.

~ St. Matthew will be having a Parish Garage Sale on Saturday, August 18th from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Proceeds from the sale will be used to furnish St. Matthew’s new meeting room in the school and the parish office.

~ Steak or Chicken Breast Dinner on Saturday, August 18th at Nativity of the Lord Parish from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Dinner is $12.00 for steak and $10.00 for chicken and includes sides, dessert and beverages. Free pizza and refreshments for children ages 13 and under. Reservations are due to Bob Harp by August 13th and can be made by calling 330-699-4243.

~ There’s Something About Mary: The Theotokos Teaches us About Jesus. The Mary that many Christians venerate is covered with stories of apparitions and miracles, novenas, prayers and shrines. The Ancient Christian Church had a different experience of this young Jewish woman who participated in the Incarnation of Christ, raised Jesus and followed him all the way to the cross and ultimately she became a witness to His Resurrection. She is virgin, mother, Theotokos, Temple and so much more. We will acquaint ourselves with her, on her terms, in her time and appreciate more what she can teach us about who Jesus Christ is. Thursday, August 23rd at 7pm at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, in the St. George Cultural Center 1051 Robinson Ave. in Barberton. The speaker will be Father Elias Rafaj.

~ New Adoption Ministry for those who have been touched by adoption. Please join this book study group on Thursday, August 23 at 7:30pm at St. Julie Billiart in North Ridgeville. Professionals will be invited to bring additional insights once the book is completed. The first book will be “The Girls Who Went Away” by Ann Fesler. Please call Jody (440) 934-7220.

~ First Friday Club of Greater Akron will hold “The Priesthood of the Faithful” on September 7th. Michael Crosby will be the speaker. All interested in the topic are invited to attend. The First Friday Club meets at the Martin Center at the University of Akron. The cost of the luncheon is $15.00; doors open at 11:15 AM; the program begins at noon, and ends promptly at 1:00PM. ~ “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: Living Our Faith, Loving Our Neighbor in an Election Year”. The Forum will be 7pm–9pm on Thursday, September 6th at Nativity of the Lord Parish, 2425 Myersville Rd. in Akron. Panelists: Rev. Joseph Koopman will discuss: Conscience formation The Bishops’ call for political responsibility Prudent voting Catholic Social Teaching and the issues. There will be time for your questions and comments throughout the program. The understanding and guidance of this document is a priority of Bishop Richard Lennon for all Catholics in the diocese.
