Please join us at a Women’s Breakfast Saturday, August 27th at 9:30 A.M. Topics: “Women’s Health: Taking Care of Yourself” (speaker Dr. Cheryl Johnson), and “Adding Creativity to Your Life” (Brenda Mitchell). It will be held in the social hall at St. Bernard- St. Mary Parish (44 University Ave.). No charge for the event. There will be door prizes, and health information handouts! Bring a friend and enjoy an informative breakfast together with the women of Akron. The breakfast is sponsored by St. Bernard-St. Mary Parish and Neighbor to Neighbor Woman. If you are not Catholic and might be interested in becoming Catholic or you are Catholic and need to complete your Catholic initiation (baptized but never confirmed) please contact Deacon Ray on the Parish Web Site by email or call and leave a message (330-253-5161 ext 15). We will begin meeting to talk about the journey to become Catholic and what that entails in early September. We will also help if you need only to be confirmed. PARISH PICNIC at Loyal Oak Lake Park (Hametown Rd., Norton) on Sunday, August 21st after the 11:30 Mass. Bring your family and a picnic lunch. The Knights of Columbus have paid your admission, reserved a Pavilion, and will set up charcoal grills for those who need to cook. There is swimming, Putt-Putt golf, and Volleyball. This year No food or beverages will be served and there will be No Mass at the park. Please bring along enough food for your family and guests, and any games or activities to enjoy. Let’s have some FUN together!

Mass of Thanksgiving for New Bishop – The Most Reverend Neal J. Buckon, a priest of the Diocese of Cleveland, who spent part of his internship living with and serving the people from St. Bernard, was ordained a Bishop for the Archdiocese for Military Services last February. A special Eucharistic Liturgy celebrating his ordination will be held on Tuesday, 23 August, 7:00 pm at St. John Cathedral in Cleveland. All are invited. A reception will follow.

The Servants of Mary are welcoming Fr. Larry Richards on August 21. He will be speaking on his new book: “Surrender!” The Secret to a Peaceful Life. The Dominican Sisters of Peace will hold an Associates Information Night on Thursday, August 18, from 6:30pm-9:00pm at the Motherhouse, 1230 West Market Street. All those interested in learning about being an Associate are welcome to attend.

Right To Life of Northeast Ohio – A youth leadership retreat for pro life students form grades 7th to 12th will be held on August 16th at St. Paul Catholic Church in North Canton from 8:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m. The event is hosted by the Pro Life Youth Congress. “Golf For Life” – Help support the sanctity of human life from conception through natural death. Enjoy an afternoon of golf on September 12th beginning with registration at 11:30 a.m. at Lake Forest County Club in Hudson, OH. Proceeds from the outing will benefit Right to Life of Northeast Ohio and Life Education Fund. The registration fee of $150 per person includes golf, cart, lunch, dinner and prizes. Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Join St. Joseph Church in Cuyahoga Falls to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Monday, August 15^th. Mass will begin at 6 p.m. followed by an Open House in Nolan Hall by St. Joseph’s Queen of Angels Book & Gift store. Light refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome.
