The mission of Newman Catholic Campus Ministry is to gather students attending non-Catholic colleges and universities in the Diocese of Cleveland in order to strengthen their faith and Catholic identity through:

Hunger Programs

Hot Meals is a food program for anyone hungry in Akron.  Meals are served Wednesdays and Sundays ON or AFTER the 15th of each month.  We always need volunteers and dontations to the program. For more information, please contact:

Religious Education

CHILDREN – Each year in August and September a form is provided for parents to inform the parish staff where their child(ren) are receiving their religious education.  The form is also available on our website “PSR”.  Any child between 1st and 12th grade must be registered as participants in one of the following:  1) attends a Catholic grade or high school; 2) attends the St. Bernard PSR program (Mondays at 6:30pm); 3) attends another parish PSR program; or 4) is homeschooled using an approved series. 

TEENS – In High School meet for Religous Education on Sundays at 10:30am in the History Room near the Social Hall.

ADULTS – Who have not yet been Confirmed please contact Fr. Frank Basa or Deacon Ray DiMascio by way of their email address under “About” – “Contact” to obtain information on preparations for this Sacrament.  


Hispanic Ministry

Beside the 1:00 P.M. Mass in Spanish and a number of cultural events, St. Bernard Parish has served the Spanish-speaking community in Akron and beyond for over 30 years.  We always welcome those interested in our programs as volunteers.  Please check our website under the “Español” tab.

“Proyecto Raices” (a bilingual program for the children of St. Bernard and St. Mary Parishes) held the first and third Saturdays of the month in the Social Hall at 10:00 a.m. for children 6-12. Everyone is welcome to attend. For more information call our Hispanic Minsitry Office at 330-253-5364.

Catholic Charities provides counseling and social services through our parish office.  The services are primarily to the Spanish-speaking community, but anyone in need can contact us for a referral.
