University of Akron Newman Center
The mission of Newman Catholic Campus Ministry is to gather students attending non-Catholic colleges and universities in the Diocese of Cleveland in order to strengthen their faith and Catholic identity through:
Participation in a worshiping community of faith
- Increased understanding of Catholic teaching & tradition
- Education, action and reflection on peace and justice issues
- Leadership development
- Opportunities for personal development and conscience formation
- Making connections between faith and life

Hot Meals Program
Hot Meals is a food program for anyone hungry in Akron. Meals are served the third, fourth (and fifth if there is one) Wednesday and Sunday of each month. We always need volunteers and dontations to the program. For more information, please contact

Interparish School of Religion (ISR) Confirmation Classes for TEENS (grades 10 through 12) will begin on Monday October 12th at 6:30PM at St. Mary school complex. For questions please contact Deacon Jim White at 330-535-3700. The location of the Confirmation ceremony will be announced later.
ADULTS who have not yet been Confirmed please contact Deacon Jim White to get details about your Confirmation Sessions. Interparish School of Religion (ISR) for grades K-8 will begin on Monday, September 14th at 6:30 – 7:45PM at St. Mary school complex.
High School classes begin on October 5th at 6:30PM at the St. Mary school complex. Registration forms have been mailed to all the families with children in the ISR program. Please return your completed registration form to the ISR Office at St. Bernard’s located at 44 University Ave. Akron, OH 44308. You could also put the completed registration form in an envelope marked ISR and drop it in the collection at Mass. If you did not receive a registration form in the mail or you are new to the program, please contact Deacon Jim White at the ISR Office (330-535-3700) and a form and information packet will be mailed to you.
Proyecto Raices
“Proyecto Raices” (a bilingual program for the children of St. Bernard-St. Mary Parish) held the first and third Saturdays of the month in the Social Hall at 10:00 a.m. for children 6-12. Everyone is welcome to attend. For more information call our Hispanic Minsitry Office at 330-253-5364.
